Rome’s Tor di Valle district heating power plant modernised with cutting-edge technology

Cefla Engineering, together with American giant General Electric, has completed modernisation of the Acea district heating power plant in Rome’s Tor di Valle quarter. What’s more, it has done so well ahead of schedule. The plant will provide heating to about 40,000 local residents, while the electricity it produces will power the waste water treatment plant or be fed into the grid.

Despite the magnitude of the project, the first engine was started up no less than four months before the agreed deadline, an extraordinary result that stemmed from efficient teamwork between the involved parties. “The true value of this result lies in the people who worked on site, each of whom made a valuable contribution to achieving this key goal before the onset of winter” stated the Managing Director of Cefla Engineering.

Cefla’s role in the project was to develop the engineering side of the power station. Cefla handled project management, supplies and installation of the complete plant, which houses two General Electric Jenbacher J920 FleXtra generators and three auxiliary boilers with relative district heating systems. Lastly, the project also comprises a long-term servicing agreement to ensure lasting performance of the engines.
